Who Wrote It

The Apostle John — the disciple Jesus loved — wrote this Gospel most likely between 85–100 AD. Of the four Gospels, John is the most theologically distinct, focusing not primarily on what Jesus did but on who He is.

What John Was Trying to Accomplish

John states his purpose directly in Chapter 20: these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have zoe in his name. Every sign and discourse in this Gospel serves that single purpose.

Why This Version Is Different

John's Gospel is where the original language matters most. The very first word of his theological argument — Logos — has no English equivalent. The life he repeatedly promises — zoe — is not ordinary biological existence but the divine life of God Himself. When you encounter bold words in the text, hover or tap to see their full meaning. That pause is the point.
